Picking grapes from a mulberry tree!

The kids and I picked grapes from a mulberry tree. Here is a shot of a mature, very large mulberry tree.

About 10 years ago my father planted a concord grape vine in his backyard. Nostalgia, I believe, was the reason behind the variety. My grandmother used to have a concord grape vine and she made wine from the grapes. We like to believe that our concord grape vine is superior and supreme to all others because it really knows how to go after the sunshine. If you look closely at the leaves on the mulberry tree you will notice the vine growing overtop.

Here’s a closeup of the vine on the tree.

Can you see the little mulberries too! The kids had a great time picking grapes from a ladder and climbing the tree. Here is our neighbour Anna  The grapes weren’t all as ripe as we’d like but we had to move fast because the raccoons that live in the tree were screeching at us to get our of their grape tree. We got enough and we’ll make some jam later this week.
